After arguably the greatest finish in Super Bowl history, there is only one thing that can be said after the Giants 17-14 upset of the 18-and-now-1 Patriots:

• Joe Montana is still the greatest of all time.

The immortality of Joe Montana will never be threatened by Tom Brady again after Brady failed to win his fourth Super Bowl, putting a blemish on not only his team's perfect season, but on his own "Big Game" record (3-1).

As an avid Tom Brady hater, I was thrilled seeing him lose a game that Joe Montana never did (Montana was a perfect 4-0 in Super Bowls; named MVP of the game three times; 11 TD's against zero interceptions; if you want more I got more).

But I have to give the devil his due. With just under eight minutes left in his quest for perfection, Brady led the Patriots down the field with surgeon-like precision, going 9 of 11 on the 12 play drive, culminating with a 6 yard pass to Randy Moss to put the at-this-point-still-perfect-Patriots up 14-10 with less than 3 minutes left in the game.

But in the end, it was Eli Manning and not Brady, the NFL's MVP, who proved to be the better quarterback on this night.

Peyton's little bro escaped a sure sack and gunned the ball down the field, only to find David Tyree's outstretched hands (and helmet) for a 32 yard catch to the Patriots 24 with 59 seconds left.

Then, 6 plays later, Manning hit a wide open Plaxico Burress for the game-winning touchdown from 13 yards out with 35 seconds left to not only elevate his status, but also preserving Montana's in NFL history.

And who knows, Tom Brady may one day win more Super Bowls than Joe Montana. Even as a Brady hater, I have to acknowledge that.

But Brady's loss in Super Bowl 42, in my opinion, guarantees that Joe Montana will always be better than Brady because in the brightest lights and the biggest stage, Montana never failed.

Never failed.
